WeSMS

Connecting female entrepreneurs with urban market opportunities.

Women entrepreneurs in Punjab, Pakistan, producing, buying, and selling, artisan’s work and products, often struggle to maintain a profitable business. In many cases this is due to problems such as a lack of market information, low access to technology and social constraints.

WeSMS is devised as an on-demand SMS service that provides contact details of selected shop owners nearby in order to connect women entrepreneurs to vetted markets for their wares.

This project was developed as part of the International Development Design Summit 2016 in Lahore, Pakistan. The code was written by Catherine Rakama (and soon be available on GitHub), all designs and branding by Shehzil Malik.

Further Implementation and future lead is conducted by Kaarvan, a local NGO focused on training and connecting female Micro-Entrepreneurs in Pakistan
